Proceeds of the Lucky Duck will go to local youth scholarships for the 2025 Chapman’s School of Seamanship Safe Boater Program and will build the financial base to launch student-led Youth Fishing Clubs across the Treasure Coast, giving kids safe affordable access to the water and the skills they need to thrive in our unique coastal community.

This is a friendly tournament designed to promote fishing across the Treasure Coast. Offshore, Inshore, and Freshwater divisions. $60 per angler early registration ($75 after June 21st), unlimited team size.

🧭 Captain’s Meeting

Date: Friday, June 27th
Time: 6:00 PM (Check-in from 4:00–5:30 PM)
Location: Old Florida Room at Conchy Joe’s
Requirement: At least one team member must attend (all anglers encouraged). Each angler is responsible for knowing all rules, including last-minute changes announced at the meeting.

🕓 Tournament Day: Saturday, June 28th

Lines In: 7:00 AM -bait fishing is allowed until 6:30am
Lines Out: 2:00 PM
Fishing Area: Florida Waters 
Weigh-In:
– 1:00–3:00 PM at Conchy Joe’s South Dock
– Fish may arrive by boat or land

🏆 Scoring

Release Points:
– Sailfish: 100 points per live bait  release, 200 per dead bait release

Eligible Species: Dolphin, Tuna, Wahoo, Kingfish, Snapper and Trigger

Aggregate Points:
Total weight, with priority given to most species
Scoring Notes:
-One fish, per angler, per species (excluding sailfish)considered for aggregate points.
– All fish must be caught on rod & reel (no electric reels). Kites, wire lines, down riggers and planers are allowed. Live bait, dead bait and artificial baits are permitted. No live chumming allowed. No restrictions on line test.
-All natural bait must use a circle hook
– All fish weighed must meet Florida Regulations. No billfish will be weighed.
– Hook and Hand: Teams are permitted to pass the rod on a hooked fish without limitations, the angler who lands the fish will be considered the official angler for scoring purposes.
– Captains are encouraged to text catch/release photos (with angler name & identifier) for live scoring
– Sailfish releases must be video recorded with a time/date stamp and include the angler, species, identifier, and release.
– Catch Cards, must be signed by the angler and weighmaster and submitted to the MIATC Weigh Station by 3:00 PM (photo and video evidence must be submitted to weighmaster)
– It is the angler’s responsibility to submit cards on time
– In the event of a tie, the first boat to submit catch card will be declared the winner
– All boats must follow Florida recreational bag limits — visit www.myfwc.com for current regulations
– Note: Sailfish are their own category, but will be considered when awarding Top Jr. Angler, final decision made by tournament committee

📸 Photo & Video Release

By entering, participants grant The Lucky Duck and affiliates the right to use submitted or captured photos/videos for marketing, advertising, and other purposes in perpetuity, worldwide.

🚨 Conduct & Disqualifications

– Weather: The decision to fish is solely the angler’s choice. All anglers fish at their own discretion and risk.
– Entry Fees are non-refundable.
– The Tournament Committee may refuse entry to anyone at its discretion
– Cheating will not be tolerated
– Protests must be submitted by 5:00 PM on tournament day
– Verbal/physical abuse, threats, or public disparagement (including online/social media) may result in immediate disqualification from this and future tournaments, with no refund
– The Tournament Committee’s decisions are final

Official Rules for the Lucky Duck Open Water Race


Location:
Indian River at Conchy Joe’s, Jensen Beach

Date & Time: June 28, 2025 – Duck Race begins promptly at 3:00pm

1. Duck Entries

  • Each rubber duck is numbered and corresponds to an official entry.

  • Ducks are launched simultaneously from a designated Sea Tow boat team.

  • Any Individual may have as many ducks in the race as they like. Scholarship Ducks are limited to one per student, an official application must be submitted.

2. Race Course

  • The course is a predetermined path over open water, monitored for safety.

  • Buoys and floating barriers will be used to help guide the ducks and contain the course.

  • Start and finish lines will be clearly marked and monitored by event staff and volunteers.

3. Duck Movement

  • Ducks move solely by natural water currents and wind—no paddling, pushing, or external influence allowed.

  • Any duck found to be tampered with (excluding designs made with permanent paint or markers) will be disqualified.

  • No designs allowed on the base of the Ducks, this area is reserved for official race number.

  • Event officials reserve the right to retrieve or reposition ducks if they get stuck or drift dangerously.

4. Winning Criteria

  • The first duck to cross the finish line will be declared the winner, additional prizes will be awarded to runners-up.

  • In case of a tie, a random draw between the tied ducks will determine the winner.

5. Scholarship Winner

  • Each Scholarship category will have a winning duck based on the first duck to cross the finish line.

  • In case of a tie, a random draw between the tied ducks will determine the winner.

6. Prizes

  • Prize winners do not need to be present to win.

  • Winners will be contacted using the information provided at registration.

  • Prizes must be claimed within 15 days of the event.

7. Safety & Environmental Considerations

  • All ducks will be retrieved after the race by volunteers and safety boats.

  • All entries are a donation, this is a symbolic race to benefit a charitable cause.

  • Event organizers are committed to leaving the environment cleaner than we found it.

8. Weather & Cancellation Policy

  • The race will proceed rain or shine unless severe weather or unsafe conditions arise.

  • In the event of cancellation, the race may be rescheduled or conducted as a virtual drawing.

9. Disclaimers

  • This is a charitable fundraiser. All entries are non-refundable.

  • The race is a game of chance; duck performance is influenced entirely by natural conditions.

  • All decisions by race officials are final.

  • To apply for a scholarship, please complete the application. When finished, email the application to LuckyDuck@miatc.org, or drop off the application at Chapman School of Seamanship (4343 SE Saint Lucie Blvd. Stuart, FL 34997) 
  • Students may only apply for one type of scholarship (you make this selection on the application).
  • After applying for a scholarship, students will receive one complimentary duck to be entered into the Duck Race.
